Information

PAGID Racing friction materials are characterised by a very high proportion of non-ferrous (ceramic) components. They have been developed to minimise wear in the brake disc and brake system whilst ensuring optimum responsiveness, pedal feel and modulation.
Furthermore, all friction materials meet or exceed the automotive industry’s current environmental standards.Belagaufbau

In addition to the friction material itself, the bond between the brake pad and the backing plate also plays a crucial role. PAGID Racing employs a dual retention system comprising an adhesive bond and mechanical fastening. Brass bolts are thus connected directly to the backing plate. This additional mechanical connection ensures that the friction material remains securely bonded to the backing plate even under high thermal loads.

The brass components are softer than the brake disc and are also worn down as the brake pads wear.

Instructions for running in PAGID Racing brake pads

Correctly running in new brake pads is crucial to ensuring optimum braking performance, consistent friction behaviour and a long service life for both the brake pads and brake discs.

1. Running-in
Establishing an even and optimal contact pattern between the brake disc and the surface of the brake pads.
Carry out 10 braking manoeuvres using moderate braking pressure and at a low temperature. During each manoeuvre, brake from approximately 150 km/h to approximately 80 km/h.

2. Warming up
In this phase, the braking system is deliberately brought up to temperature in order to introduce sufficient heat into the entire braking assembly.
Carry out a sequence of 5 braking manoeuvres using medium to high braking pressure.
Brake from approximately 180 km/h to approximately 60 km/h on each occasion.
Accelerate as hard as possible between each braking manoeuvre to quickly regain the required initial speed.

3. Recovery braking
The braking system is then cooled down and stabilised in a controlled manner by carrying out a few moderate braking manoeuvres.
Carry out 3 to 5 braking manoeuvres with medium braking pressure.
Brake from approximately 150 km/h to approximately 80 km/h on each occasion.

PAGID Racing Brake Pad Compounds

Pagid RS14
Top-of-the-range compound with a high ceramic content. The pad offers excellent fade resistance with a medium to high coefficient of friction. A special mechanical pad bonding system ensures that the friction material remains securely bonded to the pad backing despite sustained temperatures of up to 650°C and the associated decomposition of the adhesive and underlayer. The cold friction coefficient is in the range of RS42, but reaches significantly higher values above 400°C.
The pad is used in formula cars up to IndyCar, sports cars, touring cars, GT and rally cars (asphalt).

Pagid RS42
A classic racing pad with excellent all-round performance. The RS42 is characterised by high resistance to fading at a medium coefficient of friction, good cold braking performance and very good modulation. Like all PAGID racing pads, the RS42 is very gentle on the brake discs and, thanks to its low heat transfer, offers maximum protection against brake fluid boil-off. The RS42 can withstand sustained temperatures of up to 500°C.
This pad is used in rally cars, formula cars up to Formula 3, slalom and hillclimb racing.

Pagid RS44
A further development of the RS42 compound, featuring a slight increase in coefficient of friction at high temperatures and marginally higher fade resistance. The continuous thermal load capacity is up to 550°C.
Applications: Club sport, touring cars, GT, formula cars up to F3, circuit racing, rallying; can also be used over longer distances. Good rear-axle pad.

Pagid RSL 1
The PAGID RSL1 is an endurance brake pad with a low wear rate under endurance conditions and excellent disc behaviour; it is less aggressive than the RST compound. It offers the best possible braking balance across the entire temperature range.
Suitable for touring cars, GTs, sports cars and endurance racing

Pagid RSL 2
A pad compound based on the RSL1, with further improved wear characteristics for both pads and discs. It has a slightly lower initial bite and coefficient of friction, but remains just as consistent over the distance. Suitable for front and rear axles.
Applications: Endurance racing, touring cars, GTs, sports cars.

PAGID RSL 19
RSL 19 is a resin-bonded compound with a low metal content, containing steel and aramid fibres. It maintains a constant level of friction across a wide temperature range. The material is characterised by very good modulation and release properties.
Used on the rear axle in combination with RSL 1 and RSL 2 on the front axle for heavier vehicles (GT3/GTE). Used on the front axle for lighter GT and touring cars.

PAGID RSL 29
The popular endurance racing compound RSL 29 is characterised by very good modulation and release properties. It is a low-metal, resin-bonded material containing steel and aramid fibres. The material’s coefficient of friction remains constant at a low to medium level. Another advantage is its ease of bedding-in.
Very popular in club races and track days. GT cars, touring cars and prototype endurance races. Also frequently used in sprint races due to its excellent modulation properties.

PAGID RST1
Very high grip levels with excellent initial response (initial bite) and a progressive friction curve. Highly resistant to fade. Suitable for applications requiring high drive force and/or very high grip. Widely used and a multiple winner in US NASCAR races.

Pagid RST 2
Medium to high grip levels. Resistant to fade, combined with a smooth, progressive torque curve and good pedal feel. Used in GT racing, where higher temperatures are an issue. The RST2 is also used in NASCAR, on long ovals, or as a rear-axle compound in combination with the RST1 as the front-axle compound.

PAGID RST 3
The RST 3 is a medium-friction metal-ceramic compound containing steel fibres, making it the perfect addition to the RST product family. It stands out for its low thermal conductivity.
Rallying on tarmac and gravel, GT cars, touring cars and prototype circuit racing, formula cars and club racing. Wide range of applications thanks to its combination of bite, friction and controllability.

Pagid RST 4
Medium coefficient of friction, high heat resistance with consistent reproducibility. Also suitable for rear-axle applications on four-wheel-drive vehicles and for long oval races, where more aggressive materials disrupt the vehicle’s set-up.

PAGID RST 5E
Its enhanced fade resistance, combined with the highest initial bite and coefficient of friction, make it suitable for applications subject to high thermal loads and position the RST 5E as a top-end sprint brake pad in terms of performance. Thanks to its OTM property, the heat generated remains within the brake pad and is not transferred to the brake fluid. The PAGID RST 5E offers the ideal balance between maximum performance and modulation.
Specially designed and developed for short sprints with high friction coefficients, where extreme thermal stability is required. This pad compound has established itself in a wide range of different competitions in GT racing (front axles), touring car front axles, rallying – particularly FIA Rally3, Rally2, Rally1 and RX Rallycross categories.

Pagid RSH 29
Temperature-stable pad with a medium to high coefficient of friction. Although less aggressive than the RS3H, the RS29H offers low pedal forces, enabling a balanced braking feel, good modulation and a consistent coefficient of friction. Thanks to its very low pad wear and high disc-friendliness, this pad is particularly suitable for long-distance use.

Pagid RSH 3
Racing brake pad made from a metal-ceramic material with a high initial coefficient of friction and a very linear and high friction level across the temperature range. Nevertheless, it offers excellent modulation, which, together with the immediate release of the brake, provides good pedal feel. No ‘long pedal travel’ even under high loads; the pad remains stable up to 800°C and has low thermal conductivity.

PAGID RSH 42
The properties of the RSH 42 make this compound suitable for small formula cars. It can also be used as a rear-axle compound in combination with RSH 29E on the front axle.
An excellent classic rally pad that is also very popular in small formula cars.
